Work-out mania?

Wasnt my newyears resolution but i have really gotted started  in the gym. Last sunday i went out for a walk for 2 hours with my friend, we walked 9 km, later that night i went out with my bike and went 13 km. Tuesday i tried kettlebells at the gym, and it was so much fun. Yesterday it was time for 3 express passes, pump, core and spinning 30 min each. So today when all the bodyache threatened to paralyse my i went to the gym and took a 30 min intervall running session. Still t. he only muscle that doesnt hurt right now is my head :)

So now its just to keep up the good work,
Im working evenings this weekend, what are you guys upto?

Happy new year

Crazy new year in Iceland. Family dinner, loads of fireworks, champagne and a party with friends after midnight.
My 3 year old nephew woke me up at 9:30, put on a pair of boxing gloves, daring me to feel hungover. I have to say i dont feel like i deserve. Spending few more days here in the snow before i go home to reality again.
Happy new year, got a good feeling about 2012

Wine anyone?

Went to Copenhagen last weekend with a few of my coworkers. We had a interesting time at Rigshospitalet, got to see their pressurechamber, traumacenter and helipad so we were happy. After a very late lunch we went back to our hostel, we had a 12 bed dormitory room (for a 370 DDK a person in downtown Copenhagen it was totally worth it) had a predinner glas of wine, and got ready for a night out on town. We went to a Scottish pub close to the Rådhuspladsen, for drinks and dancing. My friend Henrik sold me to a danish guy who thought i was cute, he dragged me to the bar and asked if i wanted a drink or a dance. Later that night i danced with this italian guy who gave me a kiss and to on the cheek, and told me not to be scared, ehhh well i wasnt interested so thats propably why i didnt have to be scared.
Saturday we walked ströget in wind and rain, i bought a pair of Dr. Martins. When my coworkers left i waited for a friend of mine, we stayed the night in Copenhagen and drove to Germany, a bordershop on sunday. There i bought lots of wine and a little bit of booze and of course som chocolate. The car was fully loaded on the way back. And i have wine and vodka for the winter, so let the party begin.

This weekend the plan is to go to a celebrate a 40 year old.

Went out on thursday with my boys, Henrik is going to Afganistan on the 5.des so it was a chance to catch up and have a beer together. It was a wet night and i had one beer or two to many and really paid the price of it yesterday.
Yesterday i went to a AW with my friends Caroline, Magdalena and Anna, we started at Scandic hotel for some wine and a bite to eat and ended the evening in Stars dancing. I dont feel like i deserve today :)
Dont think i will go out tonight but you never know what happens!

Thanks for nothing!!

Just found out this weekend my how much raise i got. Its almost embarrassing, but at least i have a job and shouldnt complain, i-landsproblem like we say here in Sweden. Would be nice if the people in charge see my job as important and give me salary according to the responability. I mean if i make misstakes i could kill somebody.

Otherwise everything is great, i am organising a little trip to Copenhagen for my coworkers. We plan on going to Rigshospitalet and check out their pressurechamber and just make Copenhagen insecure, paint the town red like we say in Iceland.

Hope you all have a good week

The look that kills!

You know when your the first car at a red light and a little old lady crosses the street so slowly that she doesnt make it all the way over on the green light and when your light becomes green and you wait because you dont want to drive over the little old lady and the impatient driver in the car behind you honks his horn.

Thats when you get the look that kills from otherwise kind looking little old lady

Turkish bath

The turkish bath in the video (the first one) is the one we visited in Antalya. Its 700 years old, all marble inside. Like I said before the turkish bath was a very interesting experience, with emphasis on interesting. Men massage men and women massage women, anything else is considered inappropriate.
Turkish bath consists of well obviously the bath part, peeling, soap massage and finished off with an oil massage.

We arrive there and the man shows us into the womens part of the hamam, there a little lady greets us and puts us into a small dressing room and tells us with gestures (she didnt speak a lot of english) to take off our clothes. I did gestures as well asking if she meant everything and pulled the string of my underwear and yes she meant EVERYTHING. We take off our clothes and she comes back with what looked like a tablecloth and wrapped it round us, gave us a pair of slippers and gestures for us to follow her. We do so and walk through a door (from the time people were only 150 cm tall) minding our head into the bath part of the hamam.
There another little bigger turkish lady takes our hand and pulls us into a steamy room with marble benches and sinks, takes the tablecloths off us and orders us to SIT next to a sink, and starts pouring hot water over us with a bowl and gestures for us to continue, which we do. About 30-40 minutes later she comes, takes my hand and gestures for me to follow her into the next room. There she tells my to lie down on my stomach on this marble table and the peeling starts. She rubbed my body with a peeling glove to get rid of all dead skin (and believe me there was plenty), some of us was quite afraid of getting fingerd and well if i tell you she wasnt shy, i hope you understand what i mean, and if you dont i can tell you she was very close to my private parts quite a few times. Turn around she orders when she was finished with my backside and starts rubbing the front side of my body. Sit she then orders and she rubbed my arms, and asked if i wanted peeling for my face, ok i said and well imagine how happy i was when i realise that the glove she is using for my face is the same one she just used to rub my ass!! Come she says and takes my to a sink, SIT and when im sitting down, she pored warm water over me to get rid of all the dead skin she has peeled off.
Come and i follow and lie down on the marble table again and she brings this huge soap bubble and starts the soap massage wich was quite nice. Turnaround she orders and well imagine a soapy body and a marble table, i thought i would fly off the table (she made sure i didnt) after the soap massage it was back to the sink trying not to slip on the marble and she rinsed my off. Offered shampooing (i did that the second time i was there and well it wasnt like when you go to get your haircut but actually quite nice) and when finished pulled me with her wrapped a towel round me and called for the little lady who came and picked my up and took my to the massage room and gave my a full body oilmassage.
The second time i was there i also had a facial, starting with a mudmask and followed by a facemassage so nice.
Everything is then finished off with a cup of applethe.

I have never been so clean and had a smoother skin in my entire life so i can definetly recommend it. But like i said the experience was intersting.

Back home after 4 weeks in wonderful Turkey. I was pleasantly surprised with everything. We meet alot of friendly people, both locals and other tourists. Tried the turkish bath (that alone i am saving for another post), went paragliding and diving, and did a whole lot of relaxing. Drank a few efes (the local beer), tried the local sarap (wine) both red and white, never thought i would find a good wine in Turkey, well im happy to say that i was wrong.

Turkey here we come!!

Just booked a planeticket to Turkey, from september 25 to october 21 :) My BFF Jessica is coming with me for 3 weeks and the final week my friend Caroline will come down and spend the last week with me.
This is going to be a wonderful vacation, a former coworker just came home from Turkey and said, be prepared for sun, swimming, good food, and loads of shopping. Apparently genuine fake designclothes, shoes and clocks are cheap down there.

Jey im so exited right now!!

Time to say goodbye!!

Been great few days here in Reykjavík. Always nice to spend some quality time with the family.
Always the same questions though, when are you moving back to Iceland. Not anytime soon is always my reply. When you have an expensive hobby like i do, yes traveling is my hobby its so much better to live abroad, especially because its so much cheaper, and i don't have to travel the most expensive link between Iceland and Europe.
Now its all work and of course some fun for few weeks before its time for my next trip. Turkey with my BFF Jessica. It will be so much fun, exited about discovering new things.

Thanx for a great time everybody, always so much fun seeing you all.
Like you know mi casa es su casa, you're always welcome for a short or a long visit

lots of love

Running Activity 5.02 km | RunKeeper

My second jogg here in Iceland, its a strange feeling runnig/jogging the same routes i was running as a teenager. The difference is that back then i was doing it because i had to, during football practise, and now i do it well not for fun but because its good for me and i want to stay healthy and fit.

On monday i went out for a jogg with Helga, a much needed one after a weekend of festivities. On saturday, was Maggi's 30th b-day with a BBQ, beer and wine. It was also the annual culturenight in Reykjavik, so later in the evening i went down town to watch fireworks and check out some pubs with Helga and Maggi.
On sunday the next party took place, Helga just finished college, she is a student now and is starting the Uni on monday, and the rest of the family was here to celebrate Maggi. So much fun coming home and meeting up with everyone.

Yesterday we had a sistersnight and went to the movies, just the 3 of us and saw bridesmaids, i havnt laughed so hard in a long time, we even got the evil eye from a few women when the were leaving, dont know what their problem was, we just thought the movie was funny =)

Well, i off to the wonderful thermalpools here, dont know if i will swim today, or just relax in the hot tubs and enjoy the little sun that is shining.

Just a few pics from our great days together. Today we went to Aspö a small island just outside of Karlskrona. We went to the beach, grilled some hotdogs and the boys bathed in the sea. The chocolate pics are from kolmården, Halldor and Hermann won this 2000g of milk chocolate. I dont know how many times i have tried winning one, and it never happened, so im just happy that they share it with me :)
Tomorrow this invasion is over and they head home to Iceland.

Bye for now, pusssss

Running Activity 4.03 km | RunKeeper

Amazing, havnt been out for a run since 2. august and still i jogged faster today than before, so maybe drinking wine, eating junkfood and just enjoying life is the secret formula everybody is looking for ;-)

Now Runa and company have been here for a week and we have done so much since they arrived. Last wednesday we drove to Varberg to meet aunt Ragna, and our cousins Óli, Raggi and Einar with their familys. We were there for 2 days, just spending good time together.
Last saturday we drove to Öland and visitied Ölands choklad, and a small factory that makes lollipops and other candy. We drove past old castles and just had a great day. It was Eiríkurs b-day so in the evening we had steaks, and baked potatos and finished off with a wonderful chocolatecake.

Monday we woke up superearly and drove to Kolmården zoo. Its the biggest zoo in the nordic countrys and it was great. The animals have a lot of space and new for this year was riding in cable cars over the safari park. We stayed one night at the Vildmarkshotellet. After a long day in the zoo we went to the spa and relaxed in the pools before dinner.

Now we dont have any more plans, just going to do what we feel like until the go home on friday. Its been so great having them, will be hard to see them leave.

After 3 hours on the beach, took this years first dip today, i decided to go for a jogg. Was tough as hell today, the motivation and the willpower was there, still it was tough today. But when i look at the time and knowing that i had to do som walking today, still it was faster than last time i jogged this route, so i guess my fitness is improving :)

Working nights this week, the first night of tree tonight.
Tomorrow im going to get a haircut and highlights, wanna look good when my vacation starts ;)

Running Activity 5.80 km | RunKeeper

Went out for a jogg/walk today, ran about 4 km to the gym, did some weight lifting and jogged back home. My old nemesis my intestine was teasing my while i was jogging to the gym so i kind of had to jogg and walk, jogg some more then a little walk, well i guess you know what i mean.
Only one week until the invasion of Runa, Eiríkur and the boys. It will be so much fun, and i have started counting down workpasses until my vacation, only 5 nights and maybe one day, i am hoping that i dont have to work the last day, because then i get an extra day on our trip to Varberg. Raggi and Verena are with their girls in Sweden and the plan is to meet them, Oli and Linda and their boys and of course aunt Ragga and Oli, it will be great.

Nightmode does that exist?

I am only working nights this month and i think my body has switched over to nightmode if that is possible. Last week i worked 6 nights on 7 days and i have been paying the price since. I cant sleep at night, friday i lay awake till about 4 am, saturday i fell asleep around 5 am and this morning last time i checked the time it was 6 am. As a result i sleep very late, today i woke up at 13:30 pm its ok since im working tonight, this time i only have 2 nights and total of 4 nights this week so i hope it will turn around. I have to be able to sleep at night when the invasion begins in 15 days. Rúna and Eiríkur are coming with the boys and i know they will not accept a sleepy aunt during the day. The best part i will get my VACATION when they come, 2 weeks, lovelyful!!

Running Activity 5.10 km | RunKeeper

Been thinking a lot about the tragedy Norway this weekend, how can something so horrible happen so close to home?

Went out for a run and while i ran round bryggarberget the police was closing off a small area there, with their police do not cross line, at the same time Iron Maiden was telling my I´m on a highway to hell.... little ironic right? I hope nothing serious happened. I ran to the gym and lifted some weights for 45 min before i walked home. The last times ive gone to the gym ive done something i havent done in like 20 years, ive jumped rope and let my tell you its a lot harder than it was 20 years ago. I did 3 30 sec sessions today and well i understand why boxers use jumping ropes in their exercise.

Went to my friend Anders house yesterday and picked some red currant, he doesnt want it and i love it!! Dont know if one of the reasons i like red currant so much is because when i was a kid it was a forbidden zone in my grandparents yard, so the fun part was stealing som berries and hoping not to get caught ;) i can understand grandma who made jam for the whole family. I am not going to make jam out of mine, no i love putting fresh berries and musli into my yogurth in the morning.

Went out for a intervall run, ran/jogged for 4 min, then walked for 2, just did a 4 k lap took me 32 min so i dont run very fast but it gets my heartrate racing.

Was so tired yesterday, worked 3 nights last weekend and i felt like a zombie yesterday. Tonight next 3 worknight period starts =)

Sunday, July 17, 2011

Its been raining today so i went to the gym instead of running outside. 30 min intervall on the treadmill and than i lifted some weights.
Been working nights this weekend, and getting some much wanted overtime, will be nice with some extra cash when i take my vacation later. The first group is coming back and the second half is starting their vacation. I dont mind, mine is yet to come and i am planning on having the greatest time.

I was looking att trips earlier today, me and Jess are going on a vacation together in the end of september for a few weeks, we think it will be Turkey, starting in Istanbul and then going down to the east mediterian coast and fly home from there. Spent the midsummer weekend with friends. On friday we met at Josefin, ate herring and potatos for lunch, a delicious choclate and strawberry cake for tea, and finished off with a bbq. We made a maypole and of course we danced around it.
On saturday i drove to Öland, Borgholm to meet up with Jessica and her friends. We partied at the Strandhotell and stayed in a nice little house, Villa Sol and just generally had a good time.
Yesterday mum and dad came for a visit and will stay for a week. Today the sun is shining and it is so nice, promising day tomorrow to, we plan to go to Örarevet in Torsås,
grill and just enjoy the natur, who knows maybe i will take this years first dip in the ocean.

Creatures of habit!

Have we become such a creatures of habit that we have forgotten how nice a walk in the rain can be? Left my car for service at Toyota and for me the obvious choice was to walk home. Ok just before i arrived at toyota the rain was really poring down but it was ok when i arrived. The gentleman at Toyota wondered how i would take me home, and when i said walking he wondered where to, cause his collegue lives down town and if i wanted to wait for 30 min, he could drive me home. I just thanked him for his kindness, started spotify and walked home. Actually im impressed that there are still real gentlemen out there, i thought they were extinct!

Just for your info, i just bought the coolest coffeebrewer to have at work, so no more bad coffee at work. Its a pressurebrewer, thermos and a coffee/teacup all in one :) and i also order a bucketgrill, so soon i will be a proud owner of a grill and can bbq this summer on a real grill, not those disposable ones :)

Me and Jess are going to explore the Croatian coastline, the plan is to fly to Croatia and travel down the coastline and possibly islands and fly home from somewhere longer down the coastline. Running Activity 2.74 mi | RunKeeper
Went out for a run earlier today. It was 22°C in the shadow, and the few shadows on my route were greatly appreaciated. I thought i would melt!!
But who am I to complain, from what i have heard they had a little snow in Reykjavik yesterday and its still quite cold there.

Now I´m ready for the summers outside BBQs and picknics. Bought these nice plastic wineglasses so no more drinking wine from milkglasses :)

Also I´m tired of the disgusting fridge at work. We clean it every sunday but still we have some old food. Last sunday i threw out someones dinner which had green fury spots on it and it wasnt kiwi. So i put this note on the fridge hoping people will start thinking before leaving half a sandwich they wont eat later, even though that was their original plan. Our work fridge is a biohazard!!

Day off

What to do on a day off? I love the sun and right now im quite thankful it is hiding, i really need to clean my apartment, getting afraid that the dust will attack me!

The sailing was great, the weather was great, just one short rainshower, the company wonderful, the food and wine perfect so everybody was happy.

On saturday is time for next party with my coworkers. My friend has a summerhouse on Aspö, an island 30 min outside of Karlskrona and we will meet there for a BBQ. I am responsable for the food, and for starter everybody will get a nice summardrink, rosé, sparklingwater and strawberries. Main course will be grilled icelandic lamb, with ovenroasted rootvegatables and some nice sause and salad of course. For dessert im making bowls of chocolate and white chocolatmousse, served with warm summerberries.
What do you think is it a menu fit for kings?

Gothenburg

Spent my weekend in Gothenburg with amazing friends. Jessica, Max, Aske and Bella whom we met in south america. Cashing up on friday, we went to Liseberg on saturday and of course we partied a little. The drive home yesterday felt very long. And this morning it took more than 5 minutes to get up, time to face facts, im not 22 anymore.

This weekend im going sailing with Anders and other coworkers, we are picking up his sailboat in Kalmar and sailing back to Karlskrona. Well i wont be doing much sailing, mostly sitting and hoping i will survive and not getting seasick.

Happy Easter!!

Happy easter everyone. Today im going to a dinnerparty with the other Icelanders here. On the menu Icelandic lamb.... i know i dont have to say anything more.

On sunday there will be chocolate feast, after work of course, its not fair towards the others if i eat my lovelyful Icelandic chocolate easteregg, while the eat the Swedish version, mixed candy in a paperegg. Dont get me wrong i like their easteregg to, but i love the chocolateshell more.

Yesterday was (according to the calander anyhow) the first day of summer in Iceland, lets just say that i enjoyed the sun for you. Summer and winter meet and froze together and well if you believe the old folktale then thats a good sign, the summer will be good.

Spring? Been in Iceland for a week and it started snowing and there was snow the whole week, i thought that spring was just around the corner. It made me uncontrollably happy when i came home last night to see that there was not a snowflake in sight here and the air is warmer. Helga was christening her baby girl and her name is Anna Kristín, named after me and Runa. I thought Helga would be creative and give Anna Kristín a name that has not been in the family before but apperantly we mean so much to her. I have to admit it was a very pleasant surprice, and it was difficult to keep the tears away, think i managed to hide it for almost everybody. My cousin Inga Rún was compeeting in gymnastics yesterday and her group came in 2nd place so she is on her way to the Nordic Championship later this year, I am so PROUD of her. I hope i can get a change to go there and watch her. I tought Jonas, my sisters youngest a swedish word this week:) when i say puss he comes and gives me a kiss, its so sweet.

Whats up? I have a few ideas up my sleeve that i am working on, i dont want to tell you to much, afraid of jinxing it. But when i know some more, i will let you in on it ;) I can tell you that i sent a request to Marabou on facebook, asking to be their chocolate amassador. If i get it i will travel with them to Equador in august to the amazonas to learn about the origin of their wonderful dark chocolate. I have to blog about the experience, but that i can do. I LOVE chocolate, so be nice to our earth, its our only source of chocolate!! This week i have been teaching at work, teaching our or-nurses and orderlies to perform CPR on kids and babies, next week i will continue. And on friday i will get a vacation for one week. Will be nice, i am going to spend it with my family.

How is everybody, been a while since i wrote here. A lot has happened since last time.
Helga gave birth to a beautiful babygirl on feb 15. I will go to Iceland in april to meet everybody and finally hear what to call little Doris, allthough she will always be little Doris to me.
Sometimes i wonder if i should just move to a desert island, no complications, just me and the nature.
I dont know, i feel restless, i want to do something new, but thats no news to those who know me, any ideas?

Took a step closer to my newyears resolution today. I called the folkuniversity here in Karlskrona asking about wich level i should choose for my spanish lessons. They will send a test home for me to take. Classes start in 2 weeks.
My newyears resolution is to keep learning spanish and hopefully speak it fluently. Why stop now, i think i have a good base to work from.

Otherwise life is getting back to normal if anything is normal!!

In about a month Helga will have her baby and i will be a aunt again, so i have planned to go to Iceland in april to meet my family and continue doing what i do best, spoil my little niece and nephews.

My last night in Cusco

Today i treated myself with a massage, i got an incamassage, a combination of therapymassage and stonemassage. It took over a hour and it only cost 175 SEK/ 3000 ISK. I dont know where i could find that price at home?
Tonight i am going to a nice restaurant called Fallen angel, some of the tables are bathtubs filled with fishes and of course a glass so you can watch the fishes while you enjoy your dinner. After dinner the plan is to go to a openingparty at Wild Rover hostel here in Cusco, a group of Irish guys just opened a hostel here, they have one in La Paz, Bolivia, from what i have heard its a very popular hostel.

Tomorrow at 15:05 i leave Cusco for Lima, at 20:10 i leave Lima for Madrid. On sunday i will arrive to Madrid and spend a day there if it is possible to land, i just read in the news that many airports in europe are closed because of the snow. If all goes well i leave Madrid on monday for Copenhagen and should be home in Karlskrona somewhere around 20-21, all depending on SJ´s ability to take me home.

I will miss Cusco and my friends here, but i look forward to meet all my wonderful friends in Karlskrona aswell.

PARAGLIDING.....

Tried to go paragliding today but the weather was not on my side. We left Cusco at 9 in the morning and drove to Chincheros for the take off site. We were just 2 people, me and Colin from Ireland. The pilot desided that Colin would go first, but we had to wait for a better conditions. So we sat down and waited and waited some more. At 11:45 Colin and Edgar took off and glided through the air. When they came back the wind had settled a little so we have to wait a little more for my turn. I dont know if it was a hint from my mum (she was not all too happy about me paragliding) or maybe it was Caroline it started to rain, and then it rained some more. Eventually it stopped raining and what happened then, you guessed right there was no more wind, how is that possible on a mountain? So no paragliding for me. I have looked at the weatherforecast for the next 2 days and well its going to rain so I will just have to try paragliding some other time.

Instead I am going to drive a ATV-motorbike tomorrow in the morning, For those of you who worry at least I will be on the ground;-)

My last days

Spending my last days just relaxing and enjoying myself. Went shopping yesterday, stopped by the cocashop next to my house and guess what, all products made from the cocaleave i can bring home with me, its just the actual cocaleave i cant bring home with me. Like they say in the Coca shop Coca Si, Cocaina No!!! They have got a point dont they.

Wondering if i should treat myself with a massage, manicure and pedicure before i go home.

La ultima semana

Yesterday was my last day of both work and spanish. Its strange how fast time has gone.
I have been comparing the system here and at home. Like if you need antibiotics injection at home, well you usually lie in the hospital for a few days and all medicine are provided. Here if the doctor thinks you should get antibiotics for 7 days, well you buy the antibiotics, sterile water to prepare it, syringes and needles. This the patients bring with them for 7 days, and pay 1 sol everytime for the application. Maybe this is how we could fix the finances for the hospital at home?
I was wrong about the peadiatrics, the do have prizes for the kids, they just didnt have any now.
Here malnutrition and anemia are a huge problem with kids. In Cucso alone about 50% of the kids suffer from malnutrition or/and anemia. Yesterday a women came in with her 2 boys for check up, and the older one (about 3 years old) didnt even have underwear, it really breaks my heart to see that side of poverty.

My last week has begun, now i am just going to relax, do what i feel like. Maybe do a little shopping and who knows what adventure lies around the corner.

Peadiatrics

Went to work today for the first time this week, the foodpoisoning got the best of me. I am better now, have been eating antibiotics since tuesday. Yesterday was a catholic church holiday so i got the day off and went horsebackriding instead. It was so great 4 hours climbing the Andes and all i had to do was keep myself on the horse and enjoy the ride.

Today i started in peadiatrics. Its like a reception, we measure height, weight and do all controls needed like the size of the head, coordination, do they know the colors, balance etc. and the pore things get their vaccination as well. Saw a 9 days old girl today, the pore thing was wrapped in 3 woolblankets, no homeservice here, like i know is in Iceland, dont know how it is in Sweden though. Here the mothers come for the first control with their babies 2 days after discharge from the hospital, then 7 days after birth, 15 days after birth and then 1 month control etc. I took a pic of their schedule and will put it on facebook later.
I almost felt ashamed of all the things we have att home. Like when kids come to the OR in Karlskrona we give them diplomas and stickers and if they are really sad they get a teddybear (is the same for the ER and ambulance). Today a 4 year old was getting his vaccination and of course he was sad after the injection, i mean who isnt. And its just jaja the pain will go away. No prize for being a good boy. It broke my heart.

Tomorrow is my last day of work and spanishclass. Next week i am planning of having a good time, maybe try some adventures. Still havnt tried paragliding so who knows what next week brings.

Foodpoisoning is no fun...

Got foodpoisoning on saturday, was no fun i can tell you. Was planning on going out to party but was feeling strange so i decided to stay at home instead. Good thing i did, att 1 am my body did not want to keep that food inside anymore. The rest of the night i spent in the bathroom. Sunday i slept, watched a little tv, slept some more and thats how i spent my day, just lying in bed. Trying to drink and eat a little, witch didnt go so well. Today i was feeling weak and dizzy when i woke up so i didnt go to work, i have fever but thats nothing a little paracetamol cant fix. So now i am going to my spanish class, with extra paracetamol in my pocket.

Wednesday is a catholichreligious holiday here so i dont have to work, if i am well enough i am thinking about going to the sacred valley and try paragliding. It is tandem, and everybody says its safe, i hope it is....

Trouble with the law?

The last 3 days a cop has been my patient at the clinic. The first day he was in civil clothes so i didnt know he was a cop. Day 2 he comes in uniform and with his huge german shepard. The dog stood in the doorway and watched as i gave injection to his master. I wondered if the dog would attack me if i didnt do a good job. Today he came with a collegue, d0 you think i would have been arrested if i didnt do a good job? Now he has finished his treatment so the pressure is off =)

I am hoping that next week i can see something else than just topico at the clinic. I will know tomorrow if i can be in peadiatrics next week. Even if it is just for a day or two its fun to see something else.

Solving problems anyone!

This morning when i was in the taxi on my way to work one small taxi (size austin mini) had broken down a little further up the street and was blocking the road. Well not so good when everybody is on their way to work so what happened? Five or six men jumped out of the cars infront of my taxi and lifted the small taxi out of the way so the other cars could drive round it. Thats what i call solving problems:-)

There are so many illegal taxis here, many who charge gringo/a price to tourist. On my way home from work the police was doing a raid among taxidrivers to see if the had all papers in order. Of course my taxi was stopped and luckily for me he had all papers in order so we could continue. I wonder what would have happened if he hadnt, would i have to get out there in the middle of the street and wait for a new taxi, i hope i dont have to find out.

Started my third week at the Clinic today, where did the time go, i have allready worked there for 2 weeks. Soon i will be home in the snow.

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Went to a local foodmarket today, called gastronomica, only Peruvian food. Lots of stands where locals cook and sell their food. I was the only tourist, dont know why, to me this is a wonderful tourist attraction, well at least for foodlovers. The guinea pig is a local delicassy, i havnt tried it, but who knows!!
I had chicken and rice and it was so good. My company had baby goat with mash and rice and well it was nice, actually quite good.
If i get sick from eating there, well it was totally worth it, the food was so good and it was a fun experience.

Friday, November 26, 2010

Check out who was waiting for taxi with me at lunch when i was going home from work. Its not a common sight in Cusco but in poorer neighbourhoods you might see a pig or 2 on the street eating garbage. I was just happy to have my camera with me.
Weekend.....

Via ferrata and Zip-line

I survived the rock-climbing and zip-line. I will put in some pics later, the guide had the camera so i am waiting to get the pics from the trip, should be any day now.
The rock-climbing was kind of like climbing upp a ladder exept the ladder was on a rock. I am afraid of hights so when i was vertical and had to both climb up and to the side at the same time it was almost to much. I cleanched to the ladder before i continued. After the rock-climbing it was time for the Zip-line that is flying on a cable down the rock again. That was so much fun, but scary as well. Taking that step over the edge and putting all your trust on the equipment. There were 4 ziplines from 100-500 m long. If you come to Cusco i can recommend it. Good and scary fun.

I didnt have to work today, the Clinics were on a strike, why i dont know i was just happy that i could sleep in the morning.

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Tomorrow i got the day off work and i am going rock climbing. Check it out here, there is a video. Looks amazing right? Little scary, but i promise to take pictures.
Work is fine. Even though i have a trouble understanding everything i try and well just smile and try to help out as much as i can. Injections, washing instruments, drying instruments, packaging intstuments, folding gauges i know so time goes by at work.
Spanish is going well, the teacher always says correcto or muy bien, positive reenforcement like Pavlows dogs?
Maybe but it works;-)

Monday, November 22, 2010

You all know how important it is with communications? Here the drivers communicate with their horns. Almost all corners are blind here so that everytime the taxi gets close to a corner the driver honks the horn to let other drivers and those who are walking know that he is coming. The even honk when they think you are in the way, when they see you and want to offer you a ride.

The police here is very visible, they stand infront of the banks and allover the streets. They even control traffic, even when there are traffic lights. The stop the traffic to let us who want to cross the street over, but only on zebra lines. Last week new law started in Peru, you cant jaywalk. if the police catches you crossing the street where its not safe you get a fine. I dont know how many polices i have seen writing tickets.

Well of to my spanish lesson

Friday, November 19, 2010

The first week of work and spanish is done. It is getting and going better for each day. At least now i can answear some easy questions. Today we had basic conversation in spanish in class and well it went ok, i even got a muy bien for my homework on describing my family=)

I really like Cusco. Its small narrow oneway streets, all the old buildings and all the history that lies here. One of the best thing about volenteer working like i am doing is that you see a whole new side of the city you wouldnt see as a normal tourist. I know i dont think i would have gone into the poorer community as a tourist. The area where my clinic is, is a poor area. Thats another thing i like about peruvians, they may not have much but they are happy. Maybe we have something to learn from them?

I live in a neighbourhood called San Blas, its one of the oldest parts of Cusco, it has a lot of art and souviners.
Check out these webcams, the number 2 is the street i walk up and down everyday. If you are lucky you might see me.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Today Cathy from Maximo Nivel came and she could explain a lot better than me about my skills, so i have been quite busy today, giving injections both intra muscular and intra venously and assisting with wound care. Today we even got an acute patient who needed to go to the hospital.
The Clinic has emergency where the patients come after they see the doctor to get their injections or for wound care, even in the emergency comes patients from the street who need acute care. Fractures and bigger problems go directly to the hospital. It even has obstetrics and ultrasound, taking care of expecting mothers. Pediatrics, general medicin and a lab. Its very interesting to see how everything works.
I am struggeling with the language but i am determened to become exelente in spanish.

I bought a membership for a local gym yesterday and let me tell you that working out at this hight is not as easy as at home. After 5 minutes on the crosstrainer my pulse was up to 200 so i just hit the machines and weights instead. I was so tired last night i think i passed out around 10.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

First day of work today.
Language barrier..... YES
The job done differently..... YES

My scrubnurse collegues in Karlskrona would have a fit if they seen how work is done here.
I put my scrubs on at home, take the bus or taxi to work. I was prepared that it would be different but wow. I was in Topico today wich is emergency. I havnt figuerd the system out yet but the patients came to us with prescribed things to do and the medicine they were supposed to get. Lot of injections, all given intra muscular in gluteus maximus, didnt matter what it was, antibiotics or diazepam, it all went to the butt. Patients also came in for woundcare. It looks like they come in every day to get their injections because they said goodbye with hasta mañana, witch means see you tomorrow.
The instrument used were then washed in the sink (just like when you do your dishes), dried and put back into their steelbox, and than into what looked like a heat cabinet. Not so sterile?
I was helping out with cutting gauge first into 10x10 cm squares and than every square had to be folded in a special way to like 3x4 cm and that will be packed and used for wound care.

Is fun seeing how things work here, i think i will be in topico all week wich will be great. I cant wait until i speak a little spanish and can be of more help and understand the patients and staff. We tried talking today but is not so easy, is a little frustrating when you really want to do something but you cant say what you want.
Just got to be active in spanishclass and study hard at home.

Monday, November 15, 2010

Just came back from my orientation at Maximo Nivel, the organisation i will do my volonteer work with. I will start tomorrow at Centro De Salud Independencia at 8 in the morning. What i will do there, well i will find out tomorrow but according to the information i have gotten it will be assisting in taking medcial history, draw blood, give vaccinations etc. I let you know when i know more.
I will start my spanish class today at 2 o'clock 2 hours a day monday-friday.

Went to a local footballmatch yesterday. Big game for the Cusco team, they had to win to stay in the division. The match ended 0-0 so the team fell down to 2nd divison. The fans were not happy, and the referee missed a penalty for the Cusco team so after the game when the referees were leaving the field angry fans threw bottles and stuff att them. Well they got shielded police escort out of the field. I guess it is like that in countrys were football is like religon.
But it was a whole lot of fun, i sat quite far away from the real hulligans, they were blowing up smokebombs, jumping around, playing drums. Well its fasinating to watch from a safe distance.

hugs and kisses

Went partying yesterday with my new friends.
Crazy. crazy party. You have heard about happy hour but have you heard about happy minutes? The DJ played a good song, 3 bartenders jumped up on the bar each with a bottle and just pointed at people to come and then they pore alcohol into you mouth, free shots..... i have never seen a bartender do that either in Sweden or Iceland.
I went home at 4:30 and the party was still going strong.

Cusco is a beautiful city, small narrow streets with old buildings.
So far i like everything very much.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

Slept for 10 hours so my head is a bit clearer now, and so is the sky. The sun is shining in my honor of course.
My 30 hour trip was ok, the 4:30 hour wait in Madrid went by fairly quickly with my new book, the flight Madrid-Lima 11:30 hour was ok too. The tv wasnt working so all i could do was try to sleep. When i had been dosing off for like an hour, the airhostess shouted on the intercom that they had a medical emergency is there a doctor or a nurse on board. Well normally i just sink down i my seat and look the other way but this time the patient was sitting in the next row. So i told her that im a nurse. But since my german is limited to my name is Anna and im a nurse, the airhostess waited for the doctor who had risen from his seat. She obviously doesnt know a skilled nurse when she sees one ;-) so i just turned the other way and tried to go back to sleep. The patient was ok btw, he walked off the plane in Lima.
In Lima the stress began, i had to go trough immigrations, did not take to long so was ok, wait for my bag, to check it in on the plane to Cusco. The line for check in was 50 minutes, my plane had allready started boarding when the finally finished my check in, i was not allowed to go to bagdrop even though i was allready checked in from Copenhagen. So a very stressed out, sweatty Doris ran upstairs, had to stop by first to pay airport taxes, then run through security and sat down in my seat with 10 minutes to spare. But i made it and now i am in Cusco.
My program starts on sunday so i have few days to find the office and get use to the altitude.

kram kram
After 30 hours of travel i finally arrived in Cusco this morning. After warm welcome i came to the apartment i am staying in. Have just been taking it easy today. Resting, getting use to the altitude. My heart is beating faster and i breath a little heavier.
Going to go to bed early and try to catch up on some sleep

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

Let the adventure begin.....
In a few hours at 9:38 am my train leaves for Copenhagen airport and my adventures begins. At 9:30 am on wednesday i will arrive in Cusco. I am so nervous and exited at the same time.

Well my bags are packed, i have my ticket, my passport and visacard so that should cover everything.

Think happy thoughts

Vildi bara láta ykkur vita að ég ætla að blogga hérna um ferðina til Perú og kem til með að gera það á ensku svo að bæði íslenskir og sænskir vinir/fjölskylda geti fylgst með ferðum mínum.

Here i will tell you about my experience in Cusco, hope you will follow my journey and dont be shy about leaving comments

Aldrei of seint að byrja að læra endurlífgun;-)

Hann á marga góða punkta, einn þeirra þetta kvöldið var að við (white people) eigum endilega að eignast börn með dökku fólki, þó ekki nema væri fyrir varanlegu sólarvörnina sem börnin okkar myndu fá...... brilljant.

Eyddi kvöldinu með Caroline, við skelltum okkur saman í ræktina og svo kom hún hingað og ég bauð uppá fullorðinspasta og smá eftirrétt, kladdkaka og jarðaber mmmmmmm

Lítill fugl hvíslaði að mér að móðir minni finnist ég ekki blogga nógu oft....

Get reynt að bæta mig en ef ég hef ekkert að segja hvað á ég þá að skrifa?

Er búin að sofa vel og líkaminn virðist vera búinn að ná sér að mestu (fer reyndar ekki ennþá á klóið að óþörfu) Ætla núna út að labba núna held ekki að það sé gott fyrir líkamann að hvíla of mikið eftir svona.

Watch out moshultamålabrekka ég er ready=)
Hjólaði á 6:22 í fyrra á venjulegu hjóli, núna verð ég að bæta þann tíma. Allt undir 6 klst er ég ánægð með en ætla að reyna að stefna á 5:30, maður verður að setja sér markmið ekki satt.

11 vikur í Perúferðina og 8 vikur í Floridaferðina. My my time flies when you are having fun.

Nammibindindið gengur barasta vel, ekki fallið ennþá. Verið nálægt því nokkrum sinnum, veit að löngunin í nammi er mest fyrstu dagana, er á degi 5 núna, 5 dagar í viðbót og þá ætti ég að vera laus við mestu sykurlöngunina- vona ég....

Er loksins búin að skrá mig í Glasrikesresan hjólakeppnina, ætla aftur að hjóla 120 km, finnst 220 aðeins of langt. Lofaði jú að ég myndi mæta í ár á nýja fína hjólinu mínu. Hugsa að ég skelli mér út að hjóla ídag í sólinni, verð jú að byrja að hjóla keppnin er 28. ágúst og ég hef ekki sest á hjólið síðan halvvättern fyrir 2 mánuðum.

Josefin er að reyna að plata mig til að taka þátt í miniþríþraut á næsta ári. Þá syndir maður 300 m (ég get það), hjólar 20 km (ég get það) og hleypur að lokum 5 km (ég get það) það er bara gera þetta hvað eftir annað sem er málið. Kannski eitthvað sem maður ætti að prófa?

Út að hjóla......

Komin heim frá Trelleborg, ja reyndar verið heima í nokkra daga. Vann 93 klst á þessum 9 dögum, ætti að gefa nokkrar aukakrónur í ferðalagasjóðinn ekki satt.
Annars er ég að leita að stuðningi núna, gerði samning við Rúnu systir í gær. Við erum komnar í nammibindindi 1,2 og 3 japp ætlum að berjast saman við the sugarmonster.

I fell in love. Ekkert smá fínt og næs. Skoðuðum m.a.

Ímyndið ykkur að fá að búa í höfuðborg Inkaríkisins í 6 vikur ahhh so much to see and so little time to do it.
